Dear Panel,

Hi, I'm a junior in high school now, and I've been in a couple relationships but I still have trouble initiating a conversation with a girl I don't really know. There is a girl in one of my classes that I've caught looking at me on numerous occasions. I would REALLY like to get to know her better, but I've never talked to her in my life. please tell me how I should approach her, I don't want to miss my chance.

Dear Antonio,

If you've been in a couple of relationships by the time you're a junior in high school, I don't think you're too hurting.  Heck, it took me until I was a junior in college to have one relationship.  Ok, a few years after college, but I'm real slow.  Hmmm, maybe I shouldn't be giving advice on this one.  I think Alicia's gotta be better for you.

Oh, never mind.  Here's the story.  First of all, you definitely do not want to miss your chance with her or you'll regret it.  Trust me on that.  Hey, this is high school!  High school is made for opportunities like this.  And the chances are pretty good that if you've caught her looking at you, it's her way of letting you know to try.  You're 95% there already, without even making an effort!

So what are the ways to handle this?  Mutual friends?  Do you have any classes together?

For advice on starting a conversation with a stranger see Help's question.

aliciaLtin.gifCan you sit by her at lunch?  There's gotta be a way!  If you cannot find ANY commonality, then as a very last resort, you've just got to dig way down deep inside, take a few breaths, walk right up to her and INTRODUCE yourself.  "Hi, my name is...".  Listen, even if it's really awkward and doesn't work out to meeting her satisfactorily, I guarantee that your friends will think that you're a stud muffin for trying.
